project 2067: to dream of things that never were

Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation was founded 50 years ago in 1967 forged in the crucible of the civil rights movement and birthed in the midst of urban decay and poverty. Over the last five decades, we have witnessed despair and joy. Failure and success. Fifty years later, 2017 is a year that begins marked by uncertainty and an emerging national agenda that has left our society’s most vulnerable – the poor, immigrants, communities of color, women, Muslims and the LGBTQ community – anxious about deepening injustices and inequities. RestorationArt – the cultural centerpiece of the nation’s first community development corporation – launches Project 2067: Fifty Years Forward. We look 50 years into the future and provide a platform for the quiet dreams of thousands in Brooklyn and beyond. We place our communities’ stories at the center, dreaming of things that never were, and asking, why not?

Project 2067 was made possible through the generous support of The William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust and

Lincoln Center Cultural Innovation Fund.
